Interview with Jules from Blank White Space

Firstly Jules, how are you feeling and how are you coping in lockdown?

Well, it has been a journey! Raising nearly £6,000 for Meals for the NHS and Covid_19 Global Giving certainly kept me focused. It also made me feel proud of the artists' community.

Do you think the world will become a kinder place after Covid-19?

I do hope so but after the tragic death of George Floyd who knows. Locally it feels softer but only time will tell.

We'd love to hear a bit more about your small business Blank White Space.

I set up Blank White Space because I have a huge passion for art. I think it's the only way to run a business. Do what you love and the rest falls into place.

What is the kindest thing you have ever done?

When I was a Creative Director in advertising a young girl in my team lost her father and as a result, her face became numb. I paid for her to have a head massage and facial. She is now a high flyer in LA and I saw her there for drinks last year after losing touch for many years. It was a special moment.

Tell us about your love for art:

I was years old the first time I came to London on the train. My Mum took me to the Tate and bought me a Degas poster and some postcards that I hung above my bed. It's a journey that will continue for the rest of my life.

What is your favourite print that Blank White Space stocks?

It's Maria Lax Pink Smoke, it's powerful, eye-catching all at the same time.

We want to see what you have on your walls at home?

At the moment Athena Anastasiou is our artist in residence in my East London loft. Cleopatra hangs centre stage. I'm so lucky to have her here for a while. I also have just purchased artist support pledge pieces from Julie Cockburn, Matthew Burrows and I'm just about to buy Amy Stephen's sculpture.

Who is your favourite artist?

Now that's a question! It changes daily. Julie Cockburn, Vanessa Bell, Amy Stephens, Charming Baker, Soozy Lipsey, Matisse, How long have you got?

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope people start buying more electric cars and that Donald Trump loses the next election. Oh and I hope we all love a little bit more.

What is your kind message for all our lovely readers?

Love and give every day. Together we have to make this world a better place for the next generation.
